Epoxy Tool List

Although epoxy flooring is more of an art form than a science and every contractor has their own specific personal preferences there are several items than must be used to achieve the required result. The list below is for roll-down and self-levelling epoxy and urethane systems.

Floor Preparation Tools

  1. A good quality concrete floor grinder at least 250mm to 500mm wide with relevant diamond wedges, cups or segments.
  2. Hand grinder or edge grinder 125 mm to 180 mm with relevant diamond cups.
  3. Angle grinder and crack chasing blades.
  4. Vacuum cleaners designed for cement dust.
  5. Extension cables.
  6. Dust Masks.

Mixing Tools

  1. High quality, high torque electric hand-held paint mixer with relevant spindle.
  2. Mixing buckets.
  3. Chipping hammer for chopping tins.
  4. Old scraper for opening tins and buckets.
  5. Flat 350 mm plastering trowel to scrape tins and buckets.

Installation Tools for Roll-Down Systems

  1. Moisture meter to determine concrete moisture content.
  2. Medium nap, solvent resistant, no-shed rollers designed for floor paint.
  3. Open flat rectangular buckets capable of holding 5 l of material.
  4. Quality, natural & blonde, 50 mm, no bristle loss paint brushes.
  5. Putty knives for patching compound.
  6. Sandpaper for sanding down imperfections and unwanted surface grit.

Installation Tools for Self-Levelling Systems

  1. Moisture meter to determine concrete moisture content.
  2. Correct gauging rake for the required thickness of system.
  3. Spike rollers for de-aerating the system.
  4. Spike shoes.
  5. Short nap, solvent resistant, no-shed rollers designed for back-rolling.
  6. Medium nap, solvent resistant, no-shed rollers designed for priming.
  7. Quality, natural & blonde, 50 mm, no bristle loss paint brushes.
  8. Putty knives for patching compound.
  9. Sandpaper for sanding down imperfections and unwanted surface grit.
  10. Plastering trowels from 280 to 350 mm for scraper coats.
  11. Steel sprung squeegees for priming.
  12. Rubber squeegees for scraper coats.
  13. Extension poles for gauging rakes, rollers and spike rollers.
  14. Gloves, knee pads, safety glasses, cotton cloths.
  15. Garbage bags, barrier tape, masking tape, plastic sheeting.
  16. Xylene, acetone or other solvent.
